The LavaPort-ISA uses the 16650 UART incorporating a 32-byte FIFO buffer - twice the size of a standard 16550 UART.
The LavaPort-ISA Windows drivers are extremely efficient in handling the FIFO buffer. Unlike a 16550 UART port, where the CPU must verify the buffer status each time it loads a byte into the UART, the LavaPort-ISA allows the CPU to send & receive burts of data from the port without error. The LavaPort-ISA detects flow control signals without intervention from the CPU, which a 16550 UART port is not capable of doing.
