The merging of Thunderbolt and USB brings with it the ability for devices, such as the Element Hub, to feature up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports. SAY GOODBYE TO CHEAP USB-C ADAPTERS

When it comes to USB-C mini docking solutions, they may pack many ports into their design, but they don't adhere to the 15W of power allocated to the Thunderbolt 3 port. The CalDigit mini Docks have just the right amount of ports to be under the 15W of bus-power that's served to your laptop's ports. Cheap USB-C adapters don't follow the Thunderbolt 3 specification and can be harmful to your laptop and cause power issues since they could only get 7.5W from the computer. CalDigit's mini Docks, on the other hand, don't have this problem.

USING THIS CABLE WITH A THUNDERBOLT 3 DEVICE

ACTIVE Thunderbolt 3 cables offer full performance when used directly with a Thunderbolt 3 device such as a dock or hard drive. If you're intending on using this cable with a Thunderbolt 3 dock you will get FULL performance out of the dock including FULL performance from the USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 ports on the dock.

USING THIS CABLE WITH A USB-C DEVICE (NON-THUNDERBOLT 3)

If you're directly connecting an ACTIVE Thunderbolt 3 cable to a NON-Thunderbolt 3 device such as a USB-C (USB 3.0 or USB 3.1) hard drive you will see reduced performance (USB 2.0). If you require full backwards compatibility from your Thunderbolt 3 cables please purchase a PASSIVE cable that offers full speed USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 backwards compatibility.

This Adapter is ideal for use with any DisplayPort video output that you want to convert to HDMI, such as a HDMI monitor or TV.
